Welcome to Evelyn’s Wildlife Refuge!
Hello! My name is Pink Floyd and I am a raccoon who lives with Jim & Evelyn here at the refuge. I wanted to tell everyone about the great life I live and introduce you to all my friends here.
First, a little background…Evelyn and Jim Flengas founded this refuge in 2005. Evelyn has been a wildlife rehabilitator for 19 years and she is state and federally licensed. I’m a relative newbie, only getting here last year in the late summer when I was a tiny helpless baby. At the time I was dropped off, I was alone and had been struggling to survive on my own for some time. Without a mommy to provide her milk for me, and without the skills to find food on my own I had been trying to suck on anything I could find, hoping that I might get something to sustain me. I had been sucking on rocks and sticks for so long I had worn the skin off my lips leaving them pink. That’s why Evelyn and Jim named me Pink. Since I was a baby boy they added the Floyd part to make it a bit more masculine.
So that’s how I arrived here at Evelyn’s Wildlife Refuge but why am I still here? Because I contracted Parvo while I was very small and it resulted in partial paralyzation of my rear and has limited my ability to function as a wild raccoon. I don’t have all the skills I need to be released so I hang out here at the refuge and keep the other animals company.
I’m the new mascot, the Ambassador for Evelyn’s Wildlife Refuge!!
